Bloomington Spinners and Weavers Guild Newsletters
We have two great workshops coming up! Sign-up for either no later than the March meeting (March 20)--earlier is better!
1. Floating Ribbons with Supplemental Warp with Suzanne Halvorsen
This is an all day workshop on Saturday April 1 at the church. It will require a four-harness loom. The cost is $35 plus $16 for the ribbon and an additional cost for the background yarn. You can borrow a 4-harness table loom from the guild but the numbers are limited. This workshop is almost full so if you are interested, contact Gale Hill (email@example.com) immediately.
2. Kate Larsen Spinning Retreat
This retreat will be Saturday, June 24, at the church. The cost is $75. Kate is offering four choices so if you are interested, you need to also list your first, second or third choice.
The choices are:
#1 Color and Creativity for Spinners (all-day) Kate will walk you through her own design process and help you begin a spinner's creativity notebook. Materials fee: $15.
#2 Gradient Yarns: a spinner's study of shifting shades (all-day) Explore five different methods for keeping colors distinct using painted tops, dyed batts, and a few blending tricks.
#3 A Fine Thread: Lace (half-day) This class will help you combine the elements of yarn design with the right fiber to get the yarn you want.
#4 Spinning Sound Singles (half-day) By better understanding twist, exploring techniques, and no-fuss sampling you can spin useful, beautiful, sound singles yarn.
Again, if you are interested, contact or email Yvonne Oliger, 812-988-8641 (Yvonne.firstname.lastname@example.org) or Sue Meissner 812-339-0803 (email@example.com) and don't forget to list your choices from 1-3.
If you're interested, please contact the appropriate people immediately to reserve a spot. All fees for workshops are non-refundable.
FEBRUARY 20: We’ll talk about “Shortcuts & Tricks of the Trade.” Let’s talk about time-saving and handy tricks and ideas you use to make your weaving and spinning easier—either you’ve made up yourself or stolen from someone else! Bring pictures if you can’t bring the real thing.
